Human civilization is in existence for millions of years, with dates back from the Paleolithic to the present modern age. We have developed resources for ourselves utilizing the intelligence in us and raw materials provided by Mother Nature. One of such resources is the medicinal plants. We have started using medicinal plants that have their respective significance in almost every civilization and community across the world. Medicinal plants have the properties to treat various diseases and ailments which are present in humans as well as animals. Traditional medicines which have again gained importance in recent times utilize the advantages of healing properties of Phyto-constituents present in herbal or medicinal plants and heal the respective disease or an ailment. Medicinal plants have the properties and capabilities to treat almost all diseases. It is because of these reasons that again latest researches are happening in this field of medicinal sciences. Plant medicines have a big advantage, that being they have very minute or no side effects in the human body. Thymus vulgaris (wild zeera) is one such medicinal plant of importance which has properties to treat microbial infections and ailments related to the gastric region of the human body. Thymus vulgaris main constituent is thymol which is an essential oil present in it. And has various medicinal properties. The present review is an effort to present the latest updates in research on this medicinal plant. It focuses on newer pharmacological properties and the latest chemical composition present in it.
